SPECIAL BOE MEETING - MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m.

Burris, Coleman, Brown, Mayberry, and Gooden were present.

During the "Recognition and Comments from Employees and Public" section, Pastor Paul Jones of Cairo addressed the BOE, asking support for Constance Williams to be hired as Superintendent. Pastor Jones stated that he had the signatures of over 300 people supporting her candidacy. Pastor Jones stressed the importance of not repeating the mistake of the past...of hiring someone from outside the District who was not familiar with the people and the needs of Cairo. In closing, Pastor Jones emphasized that those supporting Mrs. Williams candidacy were not "demanding" her hiring, but were "asking" for consideration. President Burris accepted the petition on behalf of the BOE.

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the agenda for tonight's special meeting.

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:08 p.m.

Four candidates for Cairo Superintendent were scheduled to be interviewed:

In actuality, Mr. Driemeier was interviewed from 6:10 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mr Sherman from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Mr. Standberry from 7:30 p.m. to 7:55 p.m. Mrs. Williams was not present, reportedly having been called out of town.

The BOE voted to exit closed session at 7:57 p.m.

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to have a Special Meeting on Tuesday, May 29th at 6 p.m.
