EDUCATION OP-ED

Ahhhhhhh...retirement.

What to do today???

Ooooh, I know...go through a stack of magazine...read and pitch. Whew!

Don'tcha just hate retired teachers that rub your nose in it? I know I did!

Actually, my "intro" was to explain the lack of timeliness of the articles below...from the July 21st edition of Newsweek.

In keeping with the "Good News/Bad News" tradition in which the person always wants to hear the bad news first...

"...Paleolithic teachers unions, ready to pounce on any challenge to the failed system they dominate."

Ouch!

"They (teachers unions) still believe that protecting incompetents is more important than educating children."

Double ouch!

Ready for my rant???

Nah...would interfere with my mid-day nap! Hey, got my priorities...

But, the very same issue of Newsweek has a perfect example of the absolute need for "Paleolithic teachers unions"...to protect its members from PALEOLITHIC SCHOOL BOARDS AND PALEOLITHIC ADMINISTRATORS.

Look what happens to Connie Heermann, a 27-year veteran teacher, who buys books out of her own pocket, trying to engage her at-risk students...

Hope Connie has one of those "Paleolithic teachers unions" to fight her battle...or DEEP pockets!

Otherwise...SOL!
