According the the free online Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
: any of numerous voracious elongate snakelike bony fishes (order Anguilliformes) that have a smooth slimy skin, lack pelvic fins, and have the median fins confluent around the tail
: any of numerous other elongate fishes (as of the order Synbranchiformes)
Okay, that is all well and good. A starving CAT might take an interest in beauty-challenged member of the fish family.
However...
Merriam-Webster left out another, much more vital definition of EEL for educator CATs...
