CAT Tracks for November 22, 2011
11/22/63

If you're old enough to remember (and not so old that you have forgotten) where you were on November 22, 1963...

...and/or you are a Stephen King fan...

...you might check out the following:

Without trying to get into a "review" of the book, I'll just say that it is NOT a history book. It's a Stephen King novel.

Is it standard Stephen King fare...sure to delight fans?

Well, I haven't a clue.

About a hundred pages in (of an 850 page book), I realized two things:

  • I've never ever even read a Stephen King book. (I've watched a couple, three movies...probably made-for-TV fare, but just never got drawn in), and

  • This King fella, he actually can write. Who knew?

Maybe because it's based upon such a significant historical event, it's NOT of the horror genre for which Stephen King is famous. It's a "simple" trip back to the "Land of Ago"...to the way we were, to the way we might have been.

The pleasure is in the story, the writing...

Here's what the inside jacket of the book had to say:

So...

If you want a timely read over your long holiday, I recommend Stephen King's 11/22/63.

POSTSCRIPT:

It's one of the reasons I was so pissed last night...

...just before I struck out for the CCEC building and the BOE-FOP doubleheader, me and my girl, Sadie, were sitting in the Dallas Auditorium getting ready to watch hometown-favorite Tom Case take on up-and-coming fighter Dick Tiger in the main event...on pay-per-view, big-screen TV!

Talk about rudely interrupted!

By the time I'd penned the "minutes" to the latest installment of the CSD #1 horror show, I was tired and needed a catnap.

But, now...

...I'm back in my seat, girl in arm, beer in hand, ready for the fight to begin!

I've got $500 riding on over-the-hill Tom Case...at 4-1 odds.

My gal Sadie is hyped...just bet a tenspot on Case with a cigar-chomping rube in front of us.

I think I'm gonna get lucky...
