CAT Tracks for July 25, 2011

The Cairo Financial Oversight Panel held their regular meeting on July 25, 2011 at 6 p.m.

I did not attend this meeting...there is a limit to my not having a life. Since I have committed to two meetings tonight, I drew a line in the sand.

Thanks to Madam CAT President, however...we had it covered.

There were no surprises...

The FOP, as is their purpose and function, reviewed and approved the actions taken at last Thursday night's meeting of the Cairo Board of Education...with one exception. The FOP put on hold:

"Renovate the Cairo JR/SR High and to authorize the administration to proceed with the installation of doors in the “POD” at a cost of $15,337. This will allow for construction during the school year without disruption of classes."

So...
Larry Baldwin, Pam Carlton, Sarah Garrett, and Charlotte Lovelace have been recalled. The extracurricular personnel were approved. Bills and payroll were approved, etc.
One difference from the "regular" FOP meetings was that the CE Principal Alene Houston-Jones and CJSHS Principal Zena Madison were asked to attend and provide an overview of what was going on at their respective buildings.
Before adjourning, Glenn Webb, President of the FOP, reminded everyone that their next meeting would be held in Goreville.

Postscripts:

Five members of the Cairo BOE were in attendance. However, when it came time for closed session, two of the BOE members were asked to leave with the audience. (Some law/rule about not having more than three BOE members in closed session?)

Madam CAT President got to relive my experience of last Thursday night. One of the BOE members asked to leave closed session asked those sitting/standing in the hallway if they would like to have chairs. Could (not-so-common) courtesy be taking hold in CSD #1? Stay tuned...too early to tell.
