CAT Tracks for January 12, 2021

The Cairo Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Tuesday, January 12th, at 6 p.m.

CAT President's Report:

Call to order 6:00 p.m.

Members present: Gooden, Stubblefield, Nelson, Coleman. Harris. Also present was Financial Director Blake. Superintendent Rice "attended" by phone (since he is quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19.)

#2. CAT President De De O'Shea spoke to inform the board that the IEA-NEA Uniserve Director had been consulted about the students returning to in-person instruction. He informed O'Shea that most districts are waiting until the staff has had the vaccine before bringing students back. O'Shea also reported that two staff members at CES have tested positive this week.

Dr. Rice suggested that the students return to in-person instruction.

#4 Zachara Nelson, CJHS/CHS Principal spoke suggesting that if the students return, the hybrid method be used - Monday remote learning, Tuesday-Thursday and Wednesday-Friday on the A /B Schedule that was used before. Many of her students need to do credit recovery and this schedule would help with that.

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:15 p.m. (Member McAllister arrived sometime during closed session.)

The BOE voted to exit closed session at 7:35 p.m.

    #1 Approved resignation of Faye Oliver-Alexander.

    #2 Decision regarding returning to in-person instruction will be made at next board meeting. More information is needed.

The BOE voted to adjourn at 7: 40 p.m.
