FULL REMOTE LEARNING IN CSD TODAY |
Editor's Note: Well, hell, I guess I owe a public apology to the "Bunch of wusses in education today!" who decided to call off in-person learning in Cairo School District #1 today. In Cairo, we definitely exceeded the "dusting" or "maybe one inch of snow". At least three inches has fallen and it's still snowing! And when I drove out to CHESI this morning at 8:45, the roads were already covered. (You surely didn't expect an old man to trudge, did you? :-) By the time my appointment was over, about 10:15, the main roads were covered and slick. And, don't even talk about the Cairo side streets! In fact, I would venture a guess that tomorrow will be another total remote-learning day. Cairo streets get downright treacherous the day (or more!) following a snow of this magnitude. Anyway, when you're wrong, you're wrong. I (and the weather folks) missed this one.
Below is the original post...
"To be on the safe side..." there will be no in-person learning on Thursday, January 6th, in Cairo School District Number One. It will be a FULL REMOTE LEARNING day.
Damn, I remember when I was young (Hey, yes I do! It's short term memory that sucks at this age!)...
...anyway, when I was young, you put on your rubbers (don't be dirty minded!) and trudged through the snow, drifts be damned!
All you had to worry about were the saber-tooth tigers and the random dinosaur.
Bunch of wusses in education today!
In all seriousness, NO SNOW DAYS ANYMORE???!!! No reason to become an educator anymore...
...except for the paid three months off in the summer, well, two months in modern times.
Sigh...
PS: Yes, colleagues, I damn well know there are NO PAID MONTHS OFF for school teachers, in the summer or any other time. They pay us for 180 days and spread that pay over 12 months. And, they do NOT pay teachers for the hours and hours and hours doing lesson plans and grading piles and piles and piles of papers. Whew...enough of that! My blood pressure goes up just thinking about this stuff and I've got a doctor's appointment today, don't want him increasing my meds.
PPS: And, no, I'm NOT cancelling my doctor's appointment today because of "expected bad weather". If I have too, I'll put on my rubbers (there you go again!) and trudge out to CHESI, thereby proving that I'm in pretty damn good shape for an old fart! God spare me the prehistoric lions and tigers and bears. Oh my!
