The Cairo Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Wednesday, May 4th, at 5:30 p.m.

CAT President's Report:

Called to order at 5:30 p.m.

Members present: Coleman, McAllister, Nelson, Moore, Harris, and Tarver. Superintendent Rice and Finance Director Blake were also present. (Stubblefield came after they went into closed session.)

Item #2 - Maria Watkins asked about the bond issue because she had been receiving many phone calls at her job from citizens inquiring about the taxes going up. (Mrs. Watkins is the County Treasurer.)

Item #3 was approved.

Item #4 - Gordon Schweitzer took the podium representing Veregy Consultants. They are being used for planning purposes for the renovations of the buildings.

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:00 p.m.

The BOE voted to exit closed session at 8:18 p.m.

Actions by the BOE:

  • Item #1 was approved.

  • Item #2 - The hiring of Cory Allen as 3rd Grade teacher at CES was approved.

  • Item #3 - The school calendar for 2022-2023 was approved.

  • Item #4 - The resignation of Kiana Sanders as school counselor at Cairo Jr/Sr high school was approved.

The BOE voted to adjourn at 8:25 p.m.
