CSD PUBLIC HEARING & REGULAR BOE MEETING...AGENDAS PLUS

The Cairo Board of Education held a Regular Meeting on Thursday, June 23rd, at 6 p.m.

Prior to that meeting (at 5:30 p.m.), the BOE conducted a Public Hearing on the Amended Budget (2021-2022) for CSD #1.

CAT President's Report, Part 1:

Public Hearing called to order at 5:35 p.m.

Members present: Coleman, McAllister, Tarver, Harris, and Nelson. Superintendent Rice, Assistant Superintendent Ferrell, and Finance Director Blake were also present.

The following documents were presented and used during Finance Director Blake's testimony concerning the 2021-2022 Amended Budget for CSD #1...

(CAT Tracks Editor's Catty Commentary: Just WOW!!! The first document shows that the District's proposed budget anticipated an excess of revenue over expenses of $657,461, but actually "turned a profit" of $1,079,243 during the past fiscal year. The second document reveals all the EXTRA money flowing into the District, the $2,591,688 stashed away in the "Working Cash Fund", raising the District's "Estimated Fund Balance for June 30, 2022 to a whopping $10,729,810. OMG!!! Yet, this same school district comes to the negotiating table offering nickels and dimes to the people who actually do the effing work. Shame on them!!!)

The BOE voted to adjourn the Public Hearing at 5:45 p.m.


CAT President's Report, Part 2:

Regular Meeting called to order at 6:02 p.m.

Members present: Coleman, McAllister, Tarver, Harris, and Nelson. Superintendent Rice, Assistant Superintendent Ferrell, and Finance Director Blake were also present.

No examples of excellence.

Dorice O'Shea addressed the board informing Dr. Rice and the BOE of a union membership meeting next Tuesday.

Brittany Matthews expressed her thanks for the success of the Juneteenth Celebration.

Maria Watkins asked about the security for the buildings and the metal detectors. She also brought up building a gym at CES once again.

Dr. Rice introduced the new Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Ronald Ferrell, the new High School Principal, Narita Graham, and the new High school Dean of Students, Taylor Clark.

    (CAT Tracks Editor's Catty Commentary: Well, the District may only have 300 students, the District may only have half of its 25 faculty members, but the District has a full complement - more than it has had in recent years - of administrators! Hey, maybe the extra administrators can substitute in the vacant teaching positions! This, and spending millions on building an unnecessary new Vocational Center/Superintendent's Complex, while maintaining that they can't - or WON'T - give teachers the raise they deserve for putting up with all this sh*t.)

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 7:00 p.m.

The BOE voted to exit closed session at 9:03 p.m.

    a - Skipped.

    b - Approved hiring Dr. Lisa Thomas as Reading Interventionist.

    c - Approved hiring Rose Mary Owens as Special Education Teacher.

    d - Skipped.

    e - Approved hiring Melvin Duncan as Custodian.

    f - Approved hiring Allen Pearman as Jr./Sr. ELA/Dual Credit.

Skipped #'s 2 and 3.

Approved #'s 4-10.

The BOE voted to adjourn at 9:08 p.m.
