TRAIL INSURANCE UPDATE |
TRAIL is the health insurance program for Illinois retired teachers. The information below is being posted in case anyone (like me) "didn't get the memo". I don't know anymore than what you see below, so I cannot give you any guidance. The "Subject" line of the e-mail states that the change "Applies ONLY to Medicare Eligible Retirees" (of which I am one.) Further along in the e-mail, it states: "No action is required unless you want to opt out of the Aetna MAPD PPO Plan, add or remove dependents, or change dental/life coverage, if applicable." (So, I personally will be doing nothing.)
Is this change of carrier a good thing? I don't have a clue, but it's obviously a done deal.
Read 'em and weep...

PS: I may be mistaken about this, but, if memory serves me (which lately is a serious question), the United HealthCare premiums were much higher. If so, that would probably explain the change. However, in the past, those initial reduced rates were often the bait to switch, going up after the hook was set. Time will tell.
PPS: For those of you not familiar with the program, you may exclaim: "Wow, those teachers sure do have cheap health insurance. $2.06 a month?!" Well, those MEDICARE ELIGIBLE teachers also pay their Medicare premiums each month. Just sayin'...
