CAT Tracks for July 24, 2024 OBITUARY: CARL RILEY

Former Cairo High School Principal.

Since my Egypti collection is incomplete, I am unable to give a definitive accounting of which years Carl Riley served as CHS Principal. For sure, he was there in 2000-2001, leaving at the end of the 2002-2003 school year.

During my 39-year tenure at Cairo High School (later to be CJSHS), we had a few good principals, sadly outnumbered by the bad and the ugly.

Carl was one of the good ones.

I remember Carl for his frequently saying at the conclusion of teachers' meetings: "Always remember that the main thing is to always keep the main thing as the main thing."

Others may remember more fondly that: "If you are riding a horse and it dies, get off!"

Rest in Peace, my friend.
