Negotiations "began" on April 30, 2001, with the sending of a "Demand to Bargain" letter. The resulting contract was ratified by the CAT on August 16, 2002 and by the BOE on August 22, 2002. In between, "all hell broke loose!"

The negotiations, strike, end-of-strike, resumption of negotiations, and eventual ratification are well documented in the CAT Tracks archives of 2000-01, 2001-02, and 2002-03. (For your convenience, links are provided below.)
