CSD T-SHIRT SLOGAN

Okay, I confess...my original inclination in choosing this article for publication was to have fun substituting local names for "Beavis and/or Butt-Head".

However, it's Sunday...

I should turn the other cheek...(Hmmm...cheek, butt-head.)

I should try to be a "good Christian"...

So the various butt-heads shall remain anonymous. (If you are feeling particularly unChristian this morning, you've probably done a better job than I already...anyway!)

Editor's Note: Since I'm into confession this morning, the REAL reason I am "taking a pass" is that my mind was overwhelmed by the possible combinations. And, to be brutally honest, my initial attempt of replacing "Beavis" with the obvious "Leotis" led to an effort that would have been panned by our English teachers as totally redundant.

MEOW!

I shall now paws for three "Our Fathers" and three "Hail Marys"...

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack...

So, instead of playing the name game, I shall focus on the T-shirt slogan identified in the opening paragraph of the article...

Well, pardon my expletive!!!

Stop, thief!!!

When did Mike Judge ever teach in Cairo School District Number One???

Where does he get off "singing our song"!!!

What a "wannabe"...

Mike needs to bring his sorry butt to Cairo...we could show him a thing or three. He could quickly accumulate enough material for SEVERAL new TV shows!

Word to Mike...can't use "Twilight Zone" or "Dead Zone" as titles for your new series...TAKEN! Also, we've got an "Elm Street", but THAT series of nightmares has been done to death in the movies. (Although, I will say that the writers, producers, and directors did NOT do the District justice. Probably couldn't tone it down enough to qualify for an "R" rating...)

Oh, Mike...one more "heads up".

If you want to toy around with your "Butt-Head" theme...using another four-letter word in the opening - i.e. the "F" word. Go for it...got witnesses that THAT word is "acceptable" at Cairo Board of Education Meetings!

'Beavis and Butt-Head' creator big hit at UCSD party for grads

By Matthew T. Hall, Union-Tribune Staff Writer

LA JOLLA — Mike Judge, the creator of “Beavis and Butt-Head,” “King of the Hill” and “Office Space,” wrote this line onto a lot of T-shirts: “Ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it.”

Last night, his message to University of California San Diego graduates entering the working world was meant to be more encouraging. “There are a lot of mean, stupid bosses out there,” Judge said. “But there are also some really good ones who do good things.

“And when you work for other people, you'll find that they do know what's best – for them and for the company – and you should listen to them and be respectful.

“But they don't know what's best for you. Only you know that.” Judge, who graduated from UCSD in 1985 with – of all things – a physics degree, was keynote speaker at the school's All Campus Graduation Celebration, a precursor party to nine commencement ceremonies over three days.

Judge was a hit with hundreds of grads and their families at Rimac Field, talking about his “crooked path” and following his heart after college. He peppered his speech with the TV voices of Beavis, Butt-Head and Hank Hill. He even threw in a mumbling Boomhauer, to see how the sign language interpreter would react.

Chancellor Marye Anne Fox welcomed his wit, saying, “I never thought I'd say that 'Beavis and Butt-Head' was the beauty of a UC San Diego education, but that's what my script says, so that's what I'm telling you.”

When the last cap gets thrown into the air Monday, 6,300 graduate and undergraduate students will have left the university this month. Judge told them all to be true to themselves.

“You'll be right sometimes. You'll be wrong sometimes,” he said. “People will doubt you. You'll doubt yourself. But if you're doing something you want and have a passion for, or if you're working toward doing something you want or have a passion for, at least you'll have that to guide you.”

A student-led committee picked Judge from a pool of potential speakers who graduated from UCSD.

Sean Saly, 22, an international studies major, said Judge was awesome. “It tells me you're not stuck with the degree you've got,” Saly said. “There's so many more options out there.”

Physics major Brian Baumgartner, 23, who has watched “Office Space” “a good number of times,” was glad to hear opportunity awaits him – even if his degree collects dust. (Small chance of that. He wants to be a Disney “Imagineer,” using his engineering skills on amusement-park attractions.)

Judge's speech even resonated with Errol Moffatt, 67, in town from Tampa, Fla., for his grandson's graduation. Moffatt got his degree in physical education and set out to be a coach, then retired as an airline pilot.

Moffatt said he didn't get the pop-culture references, but he got the message.
