VIII. Approval of Payment of Bills/Payroll - There was some discussion of tuition payments made to Egyptian School under an intergovernmental agreement which allows seven students living in the Cairo District to attend the Egyptian District (which was done to forestall an effort by families living in that particular part of the District to remove their land to the Egyptian District. There was also some discussion that JAMP was not going to hire certain teachers' assistants as they have done in the past, necessitating that Cairo hire said assistants. Motion made, seconded, and passed.

IX. Informational

  1. ASBO International Annual Meeting Scholarship - Done above under "Examples of Excellence".

  2. Consortium For Educational Change (CEC) - No mention.

  3. Other - BOE Member Brown chose to take this moment to chastise the BOE for letting an employee sit in the hallway ("chit-chatting with the CAT Tracks people") during last month's closed session...a person who had requested and was expecting to address the BOE in closed session...who was never allowed that opportunity...AND, more importantly, was not given the courtesy of notification that the BOE had decided NOT to hear her...had decided that she needed to see the Superintendent instead. Mr. Brown indicated that this incident was UNACCEPTABLE...and reminded BOE members that prior to his departing the meeting, he had reminded them that they needed to notify the employee of their decision...something that was not done. A couple of the BOE members responded by saying that they thought that the employee had been told. Mr. Brown dispensed with the comments by directing his ire at Superintendent Swopes, informing him openly and firmly..."That was your job, Mr. Superintendent!"
