Machine topples over during Cairo demolition; no one hurt
By Heartland News
CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - A machine mishap brought a downtown Cairo demolition project to a sudden halt Thursday afternoon.
According to officials with the Environmental Protection Agency, an excavator that was tearing down a building on Commercial Street suddenly tipped forward and fell into the structure it was destroying.
It happened just after the machine's bucket tore through a wall, officials said.
No one was hurt.
EPA officials said the demolition is part of a project in which they're destroying buildings along a two-block area of Commercial Street.
