CARBONDALE - A 14-year-old Carbondale Middle School student has been arrested and charged with making a terrorist threat in an incident that canceled classes at the school Tuesday.

The juvenile suspect is currently in custody at the Franklin County Detention Center for allegedly making threats of violence involving a firearm at the school, according to the Carbondale Police Department.

Police say the student send threatening messages via cell phone to numerous students, who had been involved in a dispute between two groups.

The suspect, police said, did not have the intent to carry out the threat.

Carbondale Middle School re-opened Wednesday with police offers on the campus. Officials shut down the school early Tuesday after learning of the threat.
