CAT Tracks for February 25, 2010
TWO DOWN, ONE TO GO |
Tonight's meeting was basically a reprise of the community restructuring meeting held at Bennett Elementary on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.
The one new item...
"The Pink Sheets" - the questions and answers compiled by the District as a result of Tuesday's meeting. (An updated or additional list will be prepared for the third and final community meeting to be held next Tuesday, March 2nd.)
My only other comment...
Tuesday's meeting lasted approximately an hour...tonight's meeting SHOULD have.
Unfortunately, one parent decided to use the forum to bash Cairo teachers for drawing big paychecks and failing kids...paychecks in the amount of $65,000! The parent did not discriminate in that she went after the Superintendent and the BOE members also.
To their credit, the BOE members took offense...not just on their behalf, but on the behalf of teachers also. Vice President Stubblefield (who was very familiar with teachers' salaries due to his service as chief negotiator for the BOE during BOE-CAT negotiations) informed the audience that the beginning teacher salary in Cairo was the lowest of the four districts in Alexander-Pulaski County.
Another parent also took exception to the remarks, eloquently defending teachers and chastising parents for trying to pass off the "raising of their kids" to the teachers.
So...
We had our supporters, but it would have been best if the whole thing had not happened.
NOTICE - TIME CHANGE:
Next Tuesday's restructuring meeting - to be held at the District's Central Office (CCEC) - WILL BEGIN AT 5 P.M., instead of the originally scheduled 6 p.m.
