Homeless man arrested for allegedly stealing pick-up truck

By Heartland News

CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - A homeless teenager is in trouble with the law for allegedly stealing a pick-up-truck from Carbondale and driving it to Cairo.

The theft happened in Carbondale Monday, March 22. Later that same day, the truck was found unoccupied by the Cairo Police Department.

Cairo officers also learned of a potential suspect that matched an earlier description of the man who'd stolen the vehicle from Carbondale. Police believed 19-year-old James Sampson, a homeless man from Cairo may have been responsible.

Police arrested Sampson on an unrelated warrant out of Kentucky. He was later charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and theft over $300 for allegedly stealing the truck.

Sampson remains in the McCracken County Jail. No word if or when he will be extradited to Illinois to face those theft charges.
