SPECIAL BOE MEETING - MINUTES

I. Call to Order - 5 p.m.

II. Roll Call - Coleman, Vaughn, Stubblefield, Gooden, and Burris. (Brown arrived at 5:03 p.m.; McBride arrived at 5:13 p.m.)

III. Recognition and Comments from Employees and Public - None.

IV. Approval of Agenda - Special Meeting - The Superintendent indicated that there were three changes to the agenda...(1) An adjustment to the "Separation Agreement" approved at the Regular Meeting; (2) Address an issue with the District's auditor; and (3) Remove the approval of the custodial contract...not ready until the next Regular Meeting. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the Special Meeting Agenda...as amended.

V. Personnel - Skipped without comment.

VI. Closed Session - The BOE voted to enter closed session at 5:07 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 6:45 p.m.

VII. Requiring Action/Decisions By Board of Education

  1. Address Any action Deemed Necessary By Board On Matters considered In Executive Session

  2. Other
      A. Amended Budget - Available For Public Inspection - Motion made, seconded, and passed to put the amended budget on reading.

      B. Approve Contract - Para-Professionals (Teacher Aides) - Skipped without comment. (In retrospect...since the "Aides" are represented by Local 773 - which represents the custodians - the comments made by the Superintendent about postponing approval of the custodial contract until the next Regular Meeting of the BOE may have applied as well to the "Aides". If you have a better guess, let me know...I'll put it "out there".)

      C. Approve Contract - Custodians - Tabled.

      D. Approve District Handbook - Motion made, seconded, and passed.

      E. Approve Resolution For Expenditures Less Than $50,000 - The "weird item" of the night. Prior to closed session, the Superintendent made a remark about this agenda item...like it would not be voted on. The reason...he informed the BOE members that the FOP had indicated in their last meeting that they were NOT in favor of this approach/concept. However...after closed session, the Superintendent, indeed, made the recommendation to approve this item on the agenda. Accordingly, a motion was made, seconded, and passed to proceed. A rebellion in the making? Stay tuned...

      F. Approve Property Casualty Renewal Quotation - Apparently there are some "adjustments" taking place...involving the Bennett Elementary Building and the Central Office. The "plan" is to remove those two buildings from coverage with a resultant decrease in premium. However, since the buildings are still in use, there is a need to extend the coverage for at least another three months. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the amended quotation.

      G. Approval of Admin./Director Salaries - Skipped without comment.

      H. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to amend the "Separation Agreement" approved at the last Regular Meeting of the BOE...a change in the retirement date from June 30, 2010 to May 28, 2010 (the currently scheduled last day of student attendance.)

      I. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the contract with the District's auditors for the 2009-2010 school year.

VIII. Adjourn - A motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn at 6:49 p.m.
