Quinn Considers Cigarette Tax Hike
SPRINGFIELD-Illinois smokers may be asked to help prevent cuts in education. Governor Pat Quinn says he might support a proposal to raise cigarette taxes by a dollar a pack.
The revenue would be used to prevent deep cuts to school funding. The governor had previously called for an income tax increase, to fill the state's $13 billion budget hole.
Lawmakers are due to leave Springfield for the summer at the end of this week.
