High schools give students their own laptop
By Laura Wibbenmeyer - bio | email
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County school distict is taking learning to a whole new level...inside and now outside of the classrooms.
Text books are being replaced with Apple MacBooks. Lone Oak, Heath, and Reidland high schoolers will all get a new MacBook for the year, and for $40 they can even take it home with them.
District Technology Coordinator Heath Cartwright says by providing this device to every high school student it really levels the playing field. He says this will take learning to the next level and allow all the students to reach their highest potential.
This project will cost the district $2.4 million over the next four years at a zero percent interest. Cartwright says even though that may seem expensive to other districts....they couldn't afford not to do it.
This will not only affect every high school student, but every student in the district. All of the PCs in the high schools will be reassigned to middle and elementary schools. Highs schoolers will now have a one to one computer to student ratio. In the middle and elementary schools, there will be one computer for every two students.
