REGULAR BOE MEETING - MINUTES |
The Cairo Board of Education held its rescheduled regular meeting on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Prior to the meeting, a public hearing was conducted on the 2009-2010 Budget.
Below are the "minutes"...
I. Call To Order - The meeting was called to order at 5:53 p.m. In attendance were Coleman, Vaughn, Gooden, and McBride. In the absence of the President and Vice President, BOE Member McBride presided.
II. Review 2009-2010 Budget - Actually there was a pause in the action as one of the BOE Members went to the office to get copies of the documents to be reviewed...enough copies for the Superintendent and the BOE Members, none for the audience. (So much for a "public" hearing...MEOW!) The Superintendent read some highlights from the documents,
III. Receive Testimony - The Superintendent "testified" that the District did NOT have a balanced budget for this school year. However, he indicated that plans were underway to correct that situation for next year...plans that might well include closing an elementary building. The Superintendent further stated that a meeting or meetings would be held in October to solidify plans and their resultant impact on staffing for the 2010-2012 school year. In further "testimony", the Superintendent indicated that due to declining student enrollment, "we are going to have to live within our means." (Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow. Translation...All y'all may lose your jobs, but if the District muckety-mucks want new administrative positions, violin concertos, public housing for the $100,000 superintendent, and a bottomless money pit for lawyers to fight employees...well, too damned bad for you. Rank has its privileges...it's good to be the king!)
IV. Adjourn To Regular Meeting - When the Superintendent completed his pronouncements - without asking if the "public" (for whom the hearing was allegedly held) had any questions or comments - the BOE adjourned to its regular meeting at 6:06 p.m.
