CAT Tracks for January 25, 2011
BUSTED! |
And the absolute irony of it all!!!
Had completed my first CAT Tracks of the day...shipped that rascal off. It's approximately 2:20 a.m. My New York Times e-mail won't arrive for another half hour or so...what to do.
Grabbed aholt of my mouse (HEY! I am a CAT...what did you expect? It's the old "Idle paws are the devil's playground.")
Anyway...
Slid the pointer over to my Freecell icon and prepared to click...when an stray thought crossed my mind...
"They Shall Take Up Serpents"
My pledge yesterday to buy the book.
I must maintain my self-imposed standard of truth for CAT Tracks!
And...
It just so happened that a Barnes & Noble e-mail had arrived whilst I napped. (Although some may find it offensive to bypass the "in-store" experience, I have succumbed to the convenience of on-line purchases.) So...I opened the e-mail and saw...OMG...yet, another new book by James Patterson. (I have joked previously about the James Patterson Book-of-the-Month Club. You think I am prolific with CAT Tracks, Patterson publishes a new freaking novel...every month!!! I am a humbled wannabe.)
Uh, anyway...
My eyes did alight upon an ad...Barnes & Noble...a proud sponsor of "No Name-Calling Week", observed this year from January 24-28. Barnes & Noble's invitation..."Join us as we support the national No-Name-Calling Week initiative, designed to end bullying of all kinds through education and creative activities."
DAMN!
Yesterday...the very first day of NNCW...my using "They Shall Take Up Serpents" to talk about Cairo School District officials.
Bears repeating...
DAMN!
I mean...
I could go on the defensive and say that I was actually "standing up to the bullies"...by calling out "the serpents" rather than slinking away and allowing my former colleagues to be abused in silence. However, my fondness for idioms pulls the rug from under that defense..."Two wrongs don't make a right." To climb down into the gutter with the oppressors, well, 'twould be lower than a snake's belly.
Or...
The ad says that we should all do our part..."through education and creative activities."
I mean...
My "Serpents Post" of yesterday was describing an institution of "education", I was "educating" the public of a case of continued CAT abuse, and, pardon me a moment of pride...I thought the post was pretty damned creative.
However...
To engage in such an obviously self-serving defense would be disingenuous...NOT becoming of one who constantly chides CSD officials for not admitting the error of their wayward ways.
So, I shall "CAT Up", admit that..."I have sinned!" (If my webcam were working, you would see the tears streaming down my cheeks.)
In closing...
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
Our Father...times three.
Hail Mary...times three.
Glory Be...times three.
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Mine enemies...and, yea, especially my friends might suspect that I am being catty. Well, I cannot take offense...I have certainly traveled that path on innumerable occasions. However...to all you Doubting Thomases out there: "I do regret that my 'calling out of serpents' coincidentally fell on the "kick-off" date of such an important and worthy endeavor.
Therefore, to add credence to my confession and my contrition...
I hereby make a solemn pledge...to bite my catty tongue for the remainder of the day. There shall be no further postings of CAT Tracks for the next 24 hours...until 4:30 a.m. on January 26, 2011.
DISCLAIMER: As before, IF there is another fire in Cairo...I shall post the news story (WITHOUT COMMENT!)
