SPECIAL BOE MEETING...MINUTES |
The Cairo Board of Education held a Special Meeting on January 7, 2011 at 5 p.m. Below are the "minutes"...
I. Call to Order - 5:01 p.m.
II. Roll Call - Harris, Brown, Stubblefield, Gooden, and Burris answered roll. (Coleman arrived at 5:08 p.m.; McBride arrived at 5:12 p.m.; Brown departed at 7:13 p.m.)
III. Recognition and Comments from Employees and Public - None.
IV. Approval of Agenda - Special Meeting - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
V. Superintendent's Contract: Performance Goals - Skipped with no comment.
VI. Closed Session
The BOE voted to enter closed session at 5:03 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 9:43 p.m. (without bothering to summon the CATs sitting on the steps. However, Madam President has great hearing and I am endowed with $6400 hearing aids, so we strolled into the room...just as one BOE member evidently noticed our absence (or heard us coming) and shouted "We're back in open session" from his place at the table. The President of the BOE then had the courtesy to reannounce that the BOE was back in open session.)
VII. Requiring Action/Decisions By Board of Education
When the President asked if there was any business to be brought before the BOE, one of the BOE members stated "We've done what we came to do...done the Superintendent's evaluation." (Actually, that's not how I had interpreted the agenda, but I guess if you are going to discuss/set/approve the Superintendent's performance goals, an "evaluation" may be implied.)
VIII. Other - None.
IX. Adjourn - A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn at 9:44 p.m.
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
As I sit here, basking in the afterglow of this evening's meeting...sipping a Corona with lime...I can summon only pity for those of you who failed to attend. You really do need to get out more!
It's not too late for a New Year's resolution...
