...and nowhere to go.
Damnation!
I read about Republican Candidate for Governor Bill Brady's campaign swing through Illinois...timed to coincide with the opening of the "early voting" period.
I saw that Bill Brady was going to visit Southern Illinois.
It crossed my catty mind to "speculate" in CAT Tracks...as to whether he would make it all the way to the Democratic stronghold of Cairo. I was going to publicly "invite him to lunch".
However, I figured it best to bite my tongue...
...that if I pushed it, my comments might result in me being placed on some "terrorist watchlist"...win me a personal visit from the Illinois State Police.
One thing I have learned over the years..."pick your battles".
Therefore...
I chose to sit patiently by my phone...awaiting an invitation from the esteemed (steamed?) Senator.
I mean...
I figured that if Bill did make it to Cairo...surely he would contact the person whose name he has become most familiar with during the past few weeks. I mean...I (sort of) apologized for my "Anti" remark, leaving the door ajar for a personal contact from him...to win my heart and soul. Talk about a pre-election coup...an endorsement that could have swayed tens of votes!
So...I sat...and waited.
I even sent out my finest attire for cleaning...it having acquired a layer of dust during my two years of retirement.
Patiently awaiting the call...for his girl to call my, uh, phone...expecting to pick up the receiver and hear "Ron...Senator Brady would like to do lunch. Are you available?"
I was ready to leap at the opportunity.
I was even going to insist on picking up the tab...a concession to Bill's belief that teachers should be willing to forego pay raises to save the Illinois economy. I mean...I figure I'm down to CAT-life #6 or so by now...life is too short to harbor grudges over petty politics. As we all know, it's all lies anyway...who in Hell knows what Bill Brady really thinks/believes. Look at what Democrats are doing to public education and public school teachers. If they can switch, surely the Republicans could switch...
Picking up the receiver occasionally, to see if there was a dial tone...
And then it came!
No...
...not the phone call.
The Cairo Citizen...
...arrived in my mailbox.
My foolish, naive, Pollyanna world of hope...came crashing down around my fuzzy, pointed ears!

Bill Brady, I've got one thing to say...
"Don't be a hater!"
So...
I shall remove my regal attire...shall don my everyday garb of t-shirt and jeans. I shall bide my time until November 2nd...watching old DVDs, reading books, offering occasional catty commentary.
After all...
Bill...(hopefully) it's YOUR loss.
You missed a glorious photo-op...a helluva opportunity to sway voters.
