NEW CAIRO FIRE...SUSPICIOUS |
From the KFVS TV Channel 12...
Thursday Cairo fire considered suspicious
By Heartland News
CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - Investigators tell Heartland News the latest fire in Cairo is considered suspicious.
Neighbors said the fire broke out at a vacant house on the 500 block of 21st Street Thursday afternoon, then spread to an occupied home. The owner was at his mother's house nearby at the time.
"There's not much distance between the two houses," said George Houston, the homeowner's brother. "And they're old houses anyway, so it doesn't take much. He lost everything he has."
The homeowner said he's mainly upset about losing so many family photos.
This is the second fire in Cairo in a week. Over the weekend a fire destroyed three buildings and damaged the roof of the Alexander County courthouse.
