THE PRETENDER |
Below is the latest from Valerie Strauss...
...goes to show why I will always be a pretender, never a contender.
I wrote a post a while back about Arne Duncan's lack of qualifications to be the United States Secretary of Education...the FACT that Arne had never served a day as a school teacher ...the FACT that Arne had never served a day as a school principal...the FACT that Arne Duncan's only claim to educational fame was his political appointment as CEO of the Chicago Public School System.
In usual catty fashion, I presented speculative, fictional dialog between Arne Duncan and President-elect Barack Obama during a break a celebratory pick-up basketball game at a Chicago YMCA. Obama enticed Duncan to take the job...emphasizing the "perks" - plans to build their own private White House basketball court.
I thought I had done good...
Then, the real deal - Valerie Strauss, Professional Columnist - enters the arena and knocks me out of the ring...with one picture-perfect punch.
No Más!!!
From the Washington Post...
The Answer Sheet
Is Duncan out of bounds?
Education Secretary Arne Duncan is in Europe this week, visiting first London and then Paris, where he will visit UNESCO headquarters and deliver a speech on Thursday called “The Vision of Education Reform in the United States: Keeping the Eye on the Ball!”
Below is the poster designed to promote the Paris speech.
No. It's not a joke.
I have just one question: Who thought that showing Duncan playing basketball with President Obama was a good idea?
