CSD #1 CLOSED ON FEBRUARY 10

When my favorite source for local news and weather (KFVS TV Channel 12) had a mixed message posted for Thursday - "Closed, Buses Running Late" - I turned to WSIL 3 and WPSD 6 for confirmation. "Closed"...period.

Nasty little rumor circulating yesterday from several totally unrelated sources had the Superintendent not answering telephone calls from concerned parents as to whether school was going to close early Monday in view of the continually falling snow and deteriorating road conditions.

An even worse rumor - one that even I had trouble accepting/believing - had the Superintendent mocking school personnel (who evidently were also calling about the worsening weather conditions.) Allegedly, personnel were told that they could keep watching the snow/weather as long as they wished...that Cairo schools would NOT be closing. Since the schools DID (finally) close...either the rumor was false or the Superintendent had a change of heart (or someone interceded and overruled him.) In light of all the automobile accidents in the area (some resulting in death), the final decision was a wise one.

The decision to close school for today - THURSDAY - what with side roads snow-packed and temperatures in the single digits was a no-brainer...
