THE CITY OF CAIRO SUCKS

Well, hell...sure got that wrong!

The City of Cairo FAILED to "suck"...apparently FAILED to turn on the pumps to pull the rain water out of the sewers, thus causing basements to flood. (City officials will assuredly deny that.)

Despite a prediction of 4 inches of rain and despite the fact that it rained all day before the "gully washer" late this afternoon...according to a person who knows these things, the City of Cairo chose NOT to or "forgot" to turn on the pumps. Therefore, property owners/taxpayers like me who are unfortunate enough to own a house with a basement...got water. Therefore, I have spent the past hour and a half using towels and a shop vac to suck up the standing water.

That's why my "School Board Minutes" didn't make it to your e-mail box until after the midnight hour...

Next up...carpets and boxes with ruined contents.

All I can do - other than to "suck it up" - is to offer a catty observation:

Sure was a timely reminder that the city election is fast approaching! You might say the warning was "heaven sent"!

Maybe God is saying that it's time to flush out the old. Unfortunately, the "new" seldom results in an improvement...

Oh, well...

...it is Cairo!

Speaking of which...

How 'bout them utility bills?

One low month...

Since then...up, up, and away!

Right back where we started from...

Anybody got the Illinois Attorney General's phone number?

I had it written down on a piece of paper...downstairs in the basement.

When it got wet, the ink ran and I can't quite make out the numbers...
