CAT Tracks for March 21, 2011
SWOPES GOLFS

...while CSD #1 burns.

Been a couple of slow news days...

Yesterday's edition of CAT Tracks happened only because a neighborhood CAT brought it to my attention. Today...nothing.

Then...

Well, the tapping proved to be Madam CAT President...

CAT Tracks Editor's Note: It should be noted for the record that Madam CAT President visited my door on her duty-free lunch period...when she is allowed to leave her classroom and the school for 30 minutes. She stayed for a total of 1 minute...to which I will testify if called to the witness stand. (If you are wondering about the preceding disclaimer, you would understand if you had read Superintendent Swopes' charges of misconduct against Madam CAT President for performing her duties. More on this topic soon...)

Okay, not surprisingly, I have digressed...

    Back to Swopes!

The reason for Madam President's visit was to deliver a supplement to the District's Accounts Payable List...the list of bills that the BOE approved at last Thursday night's meeting...the meeting in which they fired/laid off twenty (20) employees, allegedly due to the dire financial straits of the school district.

They say that firing people is stressful...

My response to that claim has always been "Try being fired!"

However...

Maybe that's the reason that Cairo Superintendent of Schools Leotis Swopes took off for Denver, Colorado on the District's dime.

Immediately below is Page 2 of 4. Take a look at the second item from the bottom, Leotis D. Swopes...

...$585.68 of wining and dining and travel. $658.09 of scheduled lodging. And, I suppose that all that conference-attending does tend to tucker a person out...$320.43 for an extra night!

Can't help but to observe...all this AFTER turning in his resignation...all this AFTER the Cairo Board of Education KNEW that anything that Superintendent Swopes "learned" would NOT benefit the children of Cairo School District Number One!

Now you know why the steam was coming out of Madam CAT President's ears, right?

NOPE...you would be wrong!

It's the "little things" that tend to really piss off the CAT President. I should know...been there, done that!

The steamy ears resulted from the third item on this same page...the "IASA EVENT", the IASA Networking Activities Golf Event...$90.

Why would a "broke" school district - so broke that it has to fire 25% of its employees - pay for its superintendent to play golf?

Is it because they are trying to get "recognition"...dazzle other school districts with our superintendent's "athletic prowess"? Maybe that's why they let him play golf on school time (endangering passers-by with errant golf balls.)

Guess it all goes back to...

It's good to be the king!
