The Cairo flood wall holds back the rising waters of the Ohio River
on Thursday, April 28 in Cairo. The Ohio was more than 18 feet
above flood stage as of Thursday morning.

Okay, now for the gallows humor...
There have been ads recently in The Cairo Citizen offering apartments to seniors, rent based on income level...maximum being $350 a month, utilities included.
Bears repeating...UTILITIES INCLUDED!!!
In Cairo, that's definitely enough to seal the deal.
A Cairo senior like myself could sell their house...
Okay, okay...there is that "minor" problem. Hey, there's a catch to everything!
As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted...
A Cairo resident like myself could sell their house, rent an apartment in the "High Rise" and pay less than he/she was previously paying for utilities alone. (See! That solves the not being able to sell your house glitch!)
No grass to cut, no property taxes, and a new bonus...no fear of high water ruining your stuff!
Even before the latest crisis, I've been (sorta) joking with my friends that I was going to follow the lead of "George Jefferson", and make my move...
Well, we're movin' on up (movin' on up)
To the east side (movin' on up)
To a deluxe apartment in the sky
Movin' on up (movin' on up)
To the east side
We finally got a piece of the pie
Fish don't fry in the kitchen
Beans don't burn on the grill
Took a whole lotta tryin'
Just to get up that hill
Now we're up in the big leagues
Gettin' our turn at bat
As long as we live, it's you and me baby
There ain't nothin' wrong with that
Well, we're movin' on up (movin' on up)
To the east side (movin' on up)
To a deluxe apartment in the sky
Movin' on up (movin' on up)
To the east side
We finally got a piece of the pie
FOOTNOTE:
For those of you unfamiliar with the geography of Cairo, the "High Rise" is indeed on the east side of the city.
