CAT Tracks for April 4, 2011
ELECTION DAY |
...is tomorrow, Tuesday, April 5, 2011.
Offices to be voted on in Cairo are Mayor, City Council, Cairo School Board, and Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees.
Responses to The Cairo Citizen's campaign questionnaire by candidates for Cairo Mayor/City Council and Cairo Board of Education were published in CAT Tracks last week.
It was also noted previously that there is a CAT in the hunt for SCC Board of Trustees...Michael Moore. His campaign ad appeared in The Cairo Citizen and the most recent edition of Monday's Pub...
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
The short version of the spiel that I used to give my government classes at Cairo High School...
Voting earns you the right to complain later. If you stay home, then you helped elect the winners by failing to support their opponents! This is especially true in local elections held in the Spring when voter turnout is usually very low.
Also...
Unlike office holders who get elected and serve in Springfield or Washington DC...the folks who win on Tuesday "stay home" and have a direct effect on your daily life...
- Leaving or fixing the pothole or broken sidewalk in front of your house.
- Leaving or clearing those weeds and/or charred remains next door.
- Choosing the next superintendent of schools who will supervise the day-to-day education of your children (and whether s/he gets free housing, free utilities and golf privileges.)
So...
Tuesday, head to the polls and vote for the candidate of your choice...
...like your life depends upon it!
