CAT Tracks for May 11, 2011
WEDNESDAY MORNING |
...at 5 o'clock.
Flashback:
...to June 1, 1967.
The release of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, since recognized as one of the most important albums in the history of popular music and widely regarded as a masterpiece. In 2003, the album was placed at number one on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Sgt. Pepper is one of the world's best selling albums, having shipped 32 million copies.
From the album, the first stanza of the song "She's Leaving Home"...
Flash Forward:
...to May 11, 2011.
The girl didn't make it out of the neighborhood...arrested by local police for violating curfew. Although the parents were initially relieved that their runaway child was safely home, that happiness turned sour when they were charged with child endangerment for violating the city's mandatory evacuation order. The child was removed from their custody and taken to an area shelter. The parents actually made out like bandits...housed in separate cells in the the city jail. Their arraignment is pending...
As for me...
...I have made my appointed rounds via the Internet.
There are no new news stories about Cairo, thus the throwaway piece above.
BTW:
With the declaration of a Civil Emergency Monday afternoon by the Mayor of Cairo, the plan announced Monday morning by Cairo Superintendent of Schools Leotis D. Swopes to bring in employees for two "staff days" on Thursday and Friday...and to reopen school on Monday...is obviously in jeopardy.
In addition...
On Monday and Tuesday, the Illinois State Police were running a roadblock checkpoint at the lights north of the Cairo, requiring motorist to show proof of residence to be allowed into the city. Needless to say, this would preclude out-of-town employees from attending.
So...
Stay tuned!
If/When Madam CAT President hears something, she will call me and that information will be posted...ASAP!
FYI: Presenting the complete lyrics to "She's Leaving Home" performed by the Fab Four...John, Paul, George, and Ringo...The Beatles!
Wednesday morning at five o'clock
as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen
clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the back door key
Stepping outside she is free
Wednesday morning at five o'clock
as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen
clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the back door key
Stepping outside she is free
She (we gave her most of our lives)
is leaving (sacrificed most of our lives)
home (we gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone for
so many years (bye bye)
Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband
Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly
How could she do this to me
She (We never thought of ourselves)
is leaving (never a thought for ourselves)
home (we struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone for
so many years (bye bye)
Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade
She (what did we do that was wrong)
is having (we didn't know it was wrong)
fun (fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied for
so many years (bye bye)
She's leaving home (bye bye)
