THERE ARE THOSE... |
...who do not appreciate my humor.
But...
There are those...who aid and abet it!
Just got an e-mail from a loyal reader and apparent fellow Beatles' fan...
...reminding me of the time that the Beatles passed through Cairo on their Magical Mystery Tour. The group gazed out the window at the flood gates installed in the Ohio River levee at 8th and Ohio Street, water trickling beneath the sand bags. A short while later, they arrived at the location of one of our famous (infamous?) sand boils. Alighting from their bus, the Fab Four joined a crowd of people there who looked on in wonder as workers labored valiantly to contain it.
Reboarding the bus, the famed song-writing team Lennon/McCartney penned a lasting musical tribute in route to their next destination.
A portion of that song...
I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
I'm filling the cracks that ran through the door
And it really doesn't matter if
Postscript:
There is a rumor that the aforementioned "Cairo Experience" had such a dramatic and lasting effect on The Beatles that they composed an entire album and made a movie about their travels.
Yep, you guessed it...
"Yellow Submarine".
I mean...an argument could be made. Today (during non-curfewed hours) you can drive downtown along Ohio Street (at your own risk) and look up and see the boats above the levee wall. Talk about a submariner's view! Also, "Yellow Submarine" post-dated the "Magical Mystery Tour" so the timing is right.
However...
I'm sticking to my original post above...will leave the rumors and lies to others!
Just the FACTS, ma'am!
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Re: The Humor Thing
Working in Cairo School District Number One for 39 years and serving as CAT President for 20 years (not to mention my personal life) taught me one thing for sure...
You either learn to laugh and joke about life's events (small or large, especially LARGE) or you will certainly go insane.
Was I successful?
From conflicting feedback, guess the jury is still out...
THE BEATLES
"Fixing A Hole"
(Lennon/McCartney)
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go
And kept my mind from wandering
Where it will go
I'm wrong I'm right
Where I belong I'm right
Where I belong
See the people standing there
Who disagree and never win
And wonder why they don't get in my door
