Sesame Street wins Daytime Emmy: Original Song ‘What I Am’ (Video)

By Jodi Jill, National Celebrity Headlines Examiner

Sesame Street was honored with a Daytime Emmy Award on Friday night for the song Will.i.am sang called ‘What I Am.’ Winning the Outstanding Original Song of Children’s and Animation category, the song award was given to Bill Sherman and Chris Jackson. The 38th Annual Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held in downtown Los Angeles honoring those who make a contribution to daytime television.

The single that was honored, What I Am, is an inspirational number that isn’t just for kids. With a catchy tune and definitely a chance to sing along as it is easy to remember, the song has racked up over four million views on Youtube just at the official Sesame Street account. Sharing that kids need to be proud of who they are, the song gives kids a chance to express themselves positively.

The award winning for Sesame Street wasn’t just for one song either. Kevin Clash won for his voicing of Elmo, the award for Outstanding Directing In A Children's Series, Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling, Outstanding Pre-School Children's Series and Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design were also handed to the Children’s television workshop show.

The Daytime Emmy Awards primetime show will be hosted in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 19. The Gala held in Los Angeles announced some, but not all of the awards pending for this year's award list. Check your local listings for show time.
