GROUNDHOG DAY IN CSD #1

Had a couple of readers over the weekend express, yes, hope...

...hope that the Cairo Financial Oversight Panel (FOP) would do their job and save the District from itself.

I mean...that was a rational thought. It is why the FOP was created back in 2003 following the Cairo Board of Education's folly (at the advice of their high-paid lawyer) of refusing to make up 17 days of school to punish striking teachers, throwing away hundreds of thousands of dollars of state and federal funds.

Rational thoughts...like "common sense", NOT very common in Cairo School District Number One among the "powers to be".

As you have already surmised, the FOP did not turn thumbs down on the Cairo Board of Education's Friday night decision to rehire its failed Superintendent as Interim.

Oh, the FOP did not take public action yet, confining the discussion to closed session, but they did pave the way by naming Justin Miller as CEO for the month of July at $100 per day in addition to his regular salary.

Whassup with that, you ask? IL school law requires that a person who retires from a district sever her/his relationship with that district for at least 30 days prior to returning to the District.

At its July meeting, the FOP will officially put their stamp of approval on Leotis Swopes as Cairo's "new" Interim Superintendent.

And, THAT, dear reader is all I'm going to type for tonight. I shall resume when I awaken in the wee hours...

Subscribers...I shall send out an "update" when I'm through.

BTW: Yes, there is more craziness worth reading! Stay tuned...
