CAT Tracks for August 13, 2010
FRIDAY THE 13TH

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING...

To Cairo School District Number One employees with direct deposit!

You might want to check with your bank this morning...before you try spending the money.

I have received a "heads up" from two CATs that their expected money has, in fact, NOT been deposited...is NOT scheduled to be deposited.

Hopefully this is a computer glitch that will sort itself out...quickly.

However, you need to be cautious CATs today...

UPDATE: (8 a.m.)

We now know of at least three different banks that have NOT received the scheduled direct deposits from CSD #1. Madam President is on her way to the District Central Office to alert them of the problem and try to get some answers. Stay tuned...

UPDATE II: (10:15 a.m.)

First National Bank in Cairo (where the direct deposits to other banks originate) is well aware of the situation. They are making every effort to make sure the direct deposits are made to the various employee banks TODAY. Personnel at First National are contacting destination banks and requesting that if there are any overdrafts, that the banks waive said fees. If not, then CSD #1 will supposedly pay the fees.

In short...you are advised to act as if your check has been deposited "as usual". If you are uncomfortable with that, we would advise you to call your bank and make sure they have been notified by First National.

Hopefully, whatever and wherever and whomever caused today's "glitch" will be identified and the situation rectified so as to prevent any recurrence in the future.

UPDATE III: (Saturday)

So much for being optimistic...

Evidently, whatever process is used for direct deposit cannot be rectified in a day...and now it's the weekend. Apparently, the direct deposit will not hit employee bank accounts until the new business week...Monday, August 16th.

This is especially troublesome for owners/users of debit cards. Unlike writing a check that will not post until Monday at the earliest, to make withdrawals from a debit account, well, the money HAS to be there. It isn't...

I can assure you that CAT President De De O'Shea did everything within her power to rectify this situation. She was at the District Central Office before it even opened. She spent all morning contacting everyone she could think of...District personnel, Financial Oversight Panel personnel, and First National Bank personnel...as well as some other banks. The fact that the situation did not get fixed on Friday was NOT for the want of trying.

REMINDER:

If you should get any notices from your financial institutions that overdraft fees have been charged to your account, notify CAT and/or the District Central Office. Those fees WILL be reimbursed to you. District officials have given verbal assurance of this to President O'Shea. In the unlikely event that it does not happen, the Association can (and will) file a grievance on your behalf.

Although CAT had nothing to do with this situation (except for trying to get it resolved in a timely fashion), we are sorry that you had to be inconvenienced on this final "vacation" weekend...
