JUMPING THE SHARK

Hmmm...

Wonder if Valerie Stauss has been reading CAT Tracks...specifically the edition about Shark Week?

Valerie focused on "the week that was", whereas CAT Tracks peeked into the future.

Regardless, the view is scary. Or as Valerie puts it...

"It’s grisly, scary and distorted."

PS: Hey, Val! Whadja think of the CAT Fish, uh, CAT Shark?

Shark Week in the education world

It’s grisly, scary and distorted. So is Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, but I’m referring to the education policy debate.

A prime example: The ferocious assault on a “framework” for school reform released by a number of civil rights groups late last month, which offered an alternative to President Obama’s education policies.

Critics savaged not only the framework -- which, at its core, calls for equity in education resources, hardly an outlandish concept -- but the groups that wrote it, as if belittling already marginalized groups somehow qualifies as legitimate criticism.

Besides, when the Rev. Al Sharpton is held up as an authority on education reform, we know that this policy discussion has jumped the shark.

So, with that, I’m going to take something of a vacation, at least as much of a vacation as a compulsive blogger can take. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check every day on The Answer Sheet, because there will be great new material every day.

Thanks for reading.

Be right back.
