CAT Tracks for September , 2010
CALM BEFORE THE STORM |
Feeling lonely out there?
Feeling that nobody loves you??
Wondering "Where, oh, where have my CAT Tracks gone???"
Well, it ain't my fault...I just post 'em as I see 'em.
However, enjoy the peace and quiet while you can...
A friend just sent me an e-mail...reminding me that it has begun. Brian Williams is evidently doing some education program as I type...a prelude to tonight's debut of "Education Nation", the week-long assault on public schools and public school teachers spear-headed by NBC...timed "coincidentally" with the premier of "Waiting for Superman" in New York and Los Angeles.
Let the blood-letting begin.
As I told my friend...I refuse to watch. I shall await the media response.
If YOU want the "unvarnished truth"...YOU WATCH NBC THIS WEEK!
I may be paranoid, but I'm NOT masochistic...although working in Cairo School District Number One for 39 years (and serving as Union President for 20 years) might weigh heavily against me in any court of public opinion.
However...
This paws in the action, this quiet eve before the promised "shock and awe" attack, hunkered down in my lonely fox...,uh, cathole, the mind does wander...
My (school) life flashes before my weary, bleary eyes...
Ah, yes, the good ol' days...
Fellow teachers told me in my declining years..."You need to write a book"...(about our life and times in Cairo School District Number One.) I dismissed the suggestion out of hand...joking that it would never sell, that no one would ever believe it, unless maybe we published it under "fiction"...maybe even "science fiction".
Well...
It ain't gonna happen!
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I've spend the past three years writing a book..."The Book". Never again...
But...
That said!
I did have a thought...a thought that makes my heart go all a-twitter!
Cairo School District Number One "tweets"...those (literally) little messages of 140 characters or less (not that I'm going to spend my remaining days counting letters and spaces in posts!)
And, I hope that this is NOT a solitary endeavor. If that proves to be the case, then the history of CSD #1 will be a very short story as my memory banks erode at a frightening pace. Also, if I don't get any volunteer contributors, it will be a very one-sided affair as I spent my 39 years in Cairo High School (and briefly in Cairo Jr/Sr High School.)
So...
Friends, CATs, and catlanders, lend me your ears...
...but better yet your memories of those years that were...the best of times, the worst of times.
Hey, it ain't hard...
...and, if you prefer, I'll keep your contribution anonymous. However, if you yearn for your "15 minutes" of fame, I can do that too!
Here's one to get your mind a-percolatin', one that crosses boundaries, so to speak...
But, that's how easy it is!
So...
Well...
Here is an unexpected "BONUS"!
Just looked at the clock. My usual wordiness and constant honing...Brian Williams is assuredly done...you missed it!
If you are truly masochistic, there's still "Education Nation" later tonight. What time you say? Hey, you're on your own! You may be masochistic, but I refuse to be your sadistic accomplice...
Mem'ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Mem'ries, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
the way we were...
Former Emerson Principal Inez Donnigan...doing a semester at CHS as Interim Principal...ON THE ROOF (checking out the AC unit or watching for departing personnel)...in a flaming red dress!
Okay...out of cat curiosity, I did a rough count of the above "entry". Approximately 175 characters. Hey...always admitted to being wordy.
