WHAT WE HAVE HERE... |
...is a failure to communicate.
Cairo Mayor Tyrone Coleman complained about "lies" last night.
Cairo Mayor Tyrone Coleman basically blamed the media...saying that he had given them information, but that they had not passed it along.
Well, excuse me, that's NOT the media's job...to handle day-to-day communications for city officials. The media's job is to cover the "exciting stuff", the stuff their viewers want to see. People don't turn on the news to see planes landing safely...they tune in to see the plane crashes.
The "Crisis in Cairo" has passed...the flood waters are ravaging other communities. THAT is where the media is...not sitting on the doorstep of the Cairo City Hall waiting for "his honor" to speak unto the people (wherever they may be.)
And that's another thing...
The Mayor of Cairo doesn't have a clue where the people are...did NOT have a list of the motels/hotels where people were staying in Marion. He kept saying how he was going to FAX information "to the people", yet he admitted that he didn't know where they were. PLUS, I would dare say that the majority of refugees are NOT staying in motels/hotels. They can't afford it. How are THEY supposed to get the FAXED information?
I wandered the alleyways of Cairo Topix this morning...
One poster was taken aback that the Mayor of Cairo went to Marion to meet with refugees. First the poster said he was unaware that Cairo residents were staying in Marion, being aware only of people staying in Cape, Carbondale, Sikeston, Anna, and a few other locales. The poster went on to express frustration that he had heard no announcement of such a meeting in the media...and, then, wondered aloud as to why the refugees in Marion were somehow the "Chosen People", to warrant a personal visit by his honor.
Well, as one of the "Chosen People", let me say that I didn't know about the meeting either.
How did I get my "invitation"?
A Cairo teacher somehow got the word. (Don't ask me how...I don't know.) That teacher called Madam CAT President and told her. Madam CAT President then called me.
Returning to my opening sentence:
"Cairo Mayor Tyrone Coleman complained about 'lies' last night."
It is said...nature abhors a vacuum.
This is especially true of us humans, especially us peons (peed ons?). If the powers that be do not provide information to "We, the people", WE will manufacture our own.
If you don't want rumors, "lies", then you better get out in front of it and provide those "FACTS" that were touted at the opening of last night's meeting.
Enquiring minds want to know!
So...tired of the lies, Mr. Mayor?
Gimme some truth!
What I heard at last night's meeting wasn't any different than the "rumors and lies" that I have been hearing for the past week. What I heard at last night's meeting did not defuse my anger at being lied to by the previous administration, with that LIE being enforced by the present administration.
Cairo, Illinois is probably safer right now than it has been in a decade. "Outsiders" have been in the city for a week cleaning up the mess that you said the previous administrations created. The sewers and pumps can handle toilets and showers...for sure since the deluge has stopped. (We promise to shower and sh...uh, take care of other personal needs before leaving the camps!) When we return, we can also be anointed as "essential personnel" patrolling our properties, helping prevent looting, so that law enforcement officials can attend to more pressing matters...free of charge! What a deal!
To my fellow refugees:
As I see it, we have four choices...
