CSD OCTOBER LEGAL BILLS |
For those of you who don't live this...
- Robbins et al is the legal firm retained by Cairo School District Number One to wage its persecution of James Gibson. Robbins et al lost the arbitration case brought by James Gibson against the District when it refused to honor the contract it freely entered into with him in May 2004...choosing, instead to pay him as a teacher's aide. Robbins et al lost the unfair labor practice case brought by James Gibson when the District improperly RIFed him in the Spring of 2005. Robbins et al then lost the District's appeal to the IELRB Board of the unfair labor practice verdict against them by the Administrative Law Judge. When it finally appeared that war was over, Robbins et al came up with a new strategy to keep the meter running...advising the District to fight paying James Gibson the monetary award that BOTH the Judge and the IELRB Board said he is due on a technicality. YES...this is the same District that constantly whines about its dwindling financial resources. Gee...wonder where their money could be going?
- Tueth et al is the legal firm retained by Cairo School District Number One to negotiate contracts with their employee unions.
With that background, here are the bills submitted to be paid by the two law firms in the month of October:
Did the math:
- That's $8,738.25 for a month...not unusually high, maybe even low.
- Projected over a full year, the total legal services would be $104,859.
For Robbins et al, the future is bright. There are rumblings that the parties will go back to court...somthing that will cost the District tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
For Tueth et al, the future is bright. Negotiations with the teachers have only just begun. If they can chalk up over $6,000 dealing with the Teachers' Aides and the Custodial/Maintenance staff (historically the cheaper negotiations) and scratching the surface with the teachers, well, their gold in thar hills!
But...
...no time to worry about that now.
It's off to Chicago...
...or the more exotic New Orleans!
It's time to PARRRRRRRRRRRRR-TAY!
