A SIGN

...framed by golden arches...

...that I should not hold my breath anticipating rectification of the dastardly deed perpetrated upon the multitudes by some clown named (SIGH!) Ronald...

...when he ripped the killer fries from (what the food police claimed would soon be our) cold, dead hands.

I shall take comfort...

...our homeless shall become the healthiest in the world, finding as they will, discarded Happy Meals filled with uneaten apple slices.

And...

...since the politicians in Washington D.C. seem damned and determined to join hands and jump off the debt-ceiling cliff on August 2nd, that person acquiring a taste for apples may be ME...and YOU!

Hmmm...

...since it's the newly elected House Republicans who are pushing everyone to to the brink, I gotta wonder:

"Does tea come with those apple slices?"

McDonald's: Apple slices in every Happy Meal

Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) - McDonald's Corp. says it is adding apple slices to every Happy Meal, part of the chain's larger push to paint itself as a healthy place to eat.

The world's largest burger chain is also pledging to reduce sugars, saturated fats and calories, and it says it will launch a new mobile phone app focused on nutrition information.

The McDonald's USA president will go on a "listening tour" in August to ask parents and nutrition experts how else the burger restaurant can support healthy lifestyle choices.

McDonald's has gained market share in the recession by introducing healthier foods like smoothies and oatmeal. It says the new directives are a response to what customers want, and are not related to impending regulations that will monitor how restaurants market food to children.

First lady lauds McDonald's on Happy Meal changes

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - Michelle Obama says McDonald's decision to add apples to its Happy Meals is a positive step toward solving childhood obesity.

The first lady is heading a nationwide effort to reverse childhood obesity rates. She recently joined major retailers, including Wal-Mart, to announce plans to open or expand more than 1,500 stores over the next five years in areas without easy access to fresh produce.

McDonald's said Tuesday that it will make apples a standard item in its kids' meals. The company is also pledging to reduce sugars, saturated fats, sodium and calories in its menu items by 2020. Company officials said the changes are in response to consumer demand.

Mrs. Obama also lauded the world's largest burger chain for continuing to change its menu.
