THE SAD TRUTH TOO... |
...is that my adversary is unfazed and unrelenting.
I was hoping that my "concession speech" would mollify and mellow him.
Alas, he did not even acknowledge my humble effort, except to take issue with my choice of words.
So as not to rile him further, I shall post his response verbatim:
Not a "Fund raising arm of the DNC" they are a collection arm of the DNC. There is no fund raising involved. Fund raising suggests the people that donate have an option.
They do not.
And, of course, I disagreed.
In my personal response to my adversary, I pointed out that the NEA's "political action" money (PAC money) is collected separately from dues money. On the membership enrollment form, a $10 voluntary donation is suggested. (BTW: I never did...left it blank...never got hassled. I did donate when I began attending NEA Representative Assemblies, writing a personal check for that specific purpose.) The member can change the donation annually at her/his pleasure, displeasure.
PAC money is regulated by state and federal statute. If the NEA were breaking the law, the George W. Bush Administration (which infamously branded the NEA as a "terrorist organization") would have been all over it. In fact, the Bush Administration conducted an audit with that very objective in mind. Nothing!
But, hey...
...everybody is entitled to their opinion. Like elbows and whatevers, everybody has one.
So...
...the debate goes on.
