CAT Tracks for August 16, 2011
WAY DOWN IN THE HOLE

In my catch-up tour of old TV series missed during my working years, I recently arrived at Season One of "The Wire", the critically acclaimed HBO series...the language of which will singe the ears off any unsuspecting person of a sensitive nature.

After hearing from attendees at yesterday's encore performance of "Leotis Swopes: Live...Raw and Uncensored" the theme song of "The Wire" came immediately to mind.

Accordingly, I suggest that "Way Down in the Hole" be the theme for the 2011-2012 School Year in Cairo School District Number One...at least for the next 90 school days.

I have to confess...

Always catty, I flirted with the idea of changing the lyrics and substituting "the District" for "the Garden"...and even replacing "Jesus" with "CAT". That temptation was quickly nixed by a reviewer as bordering on sacrilegious.

So...

...to avoid any hint of blasphemy, I humbly propose as this year's theme the original song lyrics (by Tom Waits) as covered by the Blind Boys of Alabama.

The lyrics are below, followed by a link to a YouTube video of the Blind Boys' version of the song used on "The Wire".
