WELCOME TO OUR WORLD

DISCLAIMER:

If I offended anyone out there with my thumbnail history of Cairo, I apologize. I'm just calling it as I see it/saw it. My perspective is somewhat unique (for that time period)...being a white boy raised in a good family who did the unforgivable and married "outside my species." I was of the "in crowd", sharing their prejudicial view, and then became the object of their scorn.

BTW: The scorn comes from white folks AND black folks. I'm sure it comes as no surprise...black folks can be just as prejudiced as white folks. My lovely wife was considered "uppity" by many members of her race...for "selling out"..."trying to be white".

The only real difference (at least back in the day) was that black folks usually weren't in a position of power to turn their prejudice into racism. (Oh, black folks could express their anger and frustration by throwing a brick, burning a building, looting a business, but they were usually denied the "American Dream"...owning a business, renting/selling property, holding political office...positions of privilege from which they could deny employment, housing, and equal rights.)

WOW! Talk about digression. And, if I had not offended folks before my disclaimer, I bet I stepped on a few toes there.

I'd cop "the angry white man" excuse/theme, but I think that's reserved for white folks upset at losing what they had and held so dear to black folks.

Sure wouldn't wanna cross that line!
